I just saw District 9.
Utterly brilliant. Amazing. Shocking.
I'm afraid this movie bumps Star Trek out of my favorite slot for 2009. Sorry J.J.
By not-so-strange coincidence, I'm also halfway through "Torchwood: Children of Earth".
In the interests of full disclosure, I watch "Torchwood" out of misguided loyalty to "Dr. Who". Season one of "Torchwood" was pretty much infantile crap. I couldn't get through the first two episodes of season two (though I should give it a chance).
"Children of Earth" is utterly fantastic. Gives me hope for the franchise and for science fiction as a whole.
Both offerings have very common themes about humanity and aliens. That's pretty much all I'll say, save to recommend both.
