The French get a pretty raw deal here in the States. There's a lot of snarky commentary equating "French" and "surrender" in jokes. I have to admit I'm as guilty of that as anyone, but having actually paid a little attention in my history classes, I realize that stems from WWII and that's incredibly unfair.
The other meme about the French is a claim of rudeness.
I've been to France once. The people there were pretty nice as a whole. My only encounter with anyone rude was in Paris and that was really only in our hotel.
Thanks to the pure awesome that is Banlieue 13, I'm inclined to back off of the jokes a bit.
... or I'll try, anyway...
